Easy Turkey Locomoco

Those of you who eat turkey on Thanksgiving know that their is always a lot of leftovers.
In our household all the white meat goes quick, but somehow we are left with a whole lot of dark meat.
The kids for one do not like it at all, and in all honesty I'm not a fan myself.

What can I do with the dark meat to make it taste better...hmmm? Was the question I asked myself.
I decided to create the classic "local" (people in Hawaii) favorite, the Locomoco, turkey style!

Locomoco is often served at plate lunch places as well many sit downs which is a hamburger patty topped with fried egg then drizzled with gravy over a bed or rice! Yes, its a mess but sometimes it tastes so darn delicious! Its the holidays so we can go a little bit more on our calorie intake right? hee hee.

Here's how to make the turkey take on it.

What you will need:

(turkey patty)
Shredded dark meat or white meat turkey
Leftover drippings, chicken broth, or water
1 egg
bread crumbs ( I used panko bread crumbs)
salt and pepper to taste

Put the shredded turkey and one of the liquids above, and cracked egg in a blender. I used a magic bullet.
Combine until smooth. Pour the mixture in a bowl. If it looks runny don't be alarmed. Add the bread crumbs until its a consistency that you can make patties out of. Pan fry with olive oil until golden brown.
In a separate pan make a few sunny-side-ups or eggs over easy, whichever you prefer to accompany the number of patties you made. Plate the rice, top with the turkey patty, then egg, and drizzle with leftover gravy!

Voila, a turkey locomoco!!

Enjoy!

recently

Right after Halloween, I dove right into creating things for the holidays.
This is the third year I will be participating in a holiday event at my children's elementary school.
I set up a booth and for 3 days my main customers are children from age 5 - 12 looking to purchase gifts for family and friends. I absolutely love this event, getting to interact with children all day long. It is so much fun for me to try and think like a 'kid' and produce products that the kids may enjoy gifting.
Here are a few things I've been working on...
Arrow- hand embroidered bracelets in array of colors!

Felt hair clips - inspired by rudolph's red nose.

Scandinavian folk print magnets- using recycled paper

Miniature notebooks - handmade with origami cover

Monogrammed felt keychains- a bit of plush for backpacks etc.

Leather tie tacks - recycled genuine leather, hand painted.

handmade boxes / packaging

woodland ornaments - hand inked, glittered, and sewed.

hand lettering awesomeness!

I just discovered this artist last night while looking around on Pinterest.
I am in love with his fun hand lettering but also his ability to find the coolest sayings TO hand letter.
I just think he's got the right idea about life! I am a fan from this day forward.
Visit Jay Roeder to see more of his amazing work.

Little French Girl

This year's costume reflects Maya's dream to visit Paris France one day! This "Little French Girl" costume is made with  recycled foam board from Maya's second grade project for the Eiffel tower and deconstructed Goodwill finds for her whole outfit.

We found a striped hoodie at Goodwill and cut off the hood.
We reused the hood fabric to cover the elastic straps that attaches to the Eiffel tower.
That way she can carry the tower on her like a backpack. It camoflaged nicely into the striped top.

We found a polka dotted tutu and a red robe also at Goodwill.
We covered the tutu with strips of the red robe fleece fabric to create the poofy skirt.

I found a free baret template online and used some of the red robe fleece fabric to create this.
I added a red pom pom on top.

Eiffel tower - We transformed the foam board with grey paint, black sharpie, and glitter. I used an exacto knife to cut out the design. The Eiffel tower is architecturally incorrect, but we wanted to make it fun! We added a tea light on top with hot glue, for a "light-up feature"!

Voila! One happy little French girl!

Shwood x Pendleton

I couldn't think of a better collaboration. Shwood  x Pendleton.
I've always loved  the wood sunglasses by Shwood, but its even better when it comes in a warm pendleton case.

Look at the fine detail!

Easy Outdoor Halloween Decorations

Wish your neighbors a "Happy Halloween!" outloud!
Neon duct tape typography
I used the Scotch brand duct tape in a neon green to achieve this. I bought mine from Target.
It is a great way to fill a large space.
I just like this photo of the word "Happy". I might keep it up even after Halloween...
I'm thinking of adding designs around it.

Happy Birthday Lulu!

Today is our baby girl Lulu's birthday! She is 1 year old!

Lulu at 2 months.

she loves her kisses!

look at that face...

The kids want to get her a birthday cake! I hear Sprinkles makes doggie cupcakes.
It is sugar-free with yogurt frosting. Might have to head over there to grab Lulu a special treat!

yogurt with pomogranates

In an attempt to cut my sugar intake, I stopped buying flavored yogurt.
I buy plain yogurt and to that I sprinkle some brown sugar, a squirt of lemon juice, and add seasonal fruits or granola to it. The kids love it too!

We added pomogranates to ours over the weekend, and it was yummy with the right amount of texture!

DIY Paper bag hat

I made this newsboy hat for Jaxon out of a paper bag for "Crazy Hat Day". I always wanted to understand the construction of a hat, so this was a great experiment for me. I guess I could've sewn this out of fabric, but it just didn't sound as fun as making it out of paper! Here's how I made this.
